Residential Bonson Block Apartments Dubuque, Iowa

The Bonson Block building, constructed in 1873, will be restored to its orginal charm.  Having been utilized as a storage facility by a furniture dealer in recent years, Morning Star Studio worked with Frantz Hobart development company to develop apartment plans for downtown housing. The City of Dubuque has encouraged more downtown housing with the addition of 1500 IBM employees to the area.

The building provides eight residential units on the two upper levels, a new restaurant and retail store will make occupy first floor. Additional commercial space is available in the lower level, which is accessible at grade via the rear alley.

The building is included in the Cultural and Entertainment District, therefore the exterior work is limited to repair of masonry and ornamental stone features and window restoration.

Interior work included demolition of past renovation work, as well as construction of a new elevator shaft and stair tower. An outdoor roof deck has been included as a tenant amenity.
